Job Summary
The Senior Video Operations Engineer is responsible for the delivery of linear content through the management, maintenance and configuration of all hardware related to delivering linear video content over the company’s Fiber TV video platform in a 24x7 environment. The Senior Video Operations Engineer will provide all technical oversight, Tier I and Tier II video troubleshooting support, working closely with the leader, peers, and/or vendor support teams. In addition, this role will support the development of required processes and procedures (daily operations & troubleshooting) for the network and associated systems. This role requires shift work, unusual hours, and/or on-call rotation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Video Monitoring & Service Assurance

Maintain the Video Hub Office through surveillance of equipment alarms and QOS tools to ensure the stability and quality of video to Ziply Fiber customers.

Perform proactive health checks for all primary services (linear video) and secondary services (VOD, IMG, PPV, Ad Insertion).

Engage in video outage bridge activity to troubleshoot and resolve large scale content outages.

System Configuration & Technical Operations

Configure MPEG encoding & grooming on video appliances for IP multicast transport.

Troubleshoot and restore video service failures involving MPEG Transport streams, encoders, transcoders, Media Converters, Encryption, QOS issues pertaining to video quality, EAS, Closed Captioning, Primary and Secondary audio, Descriptive Audio.

Performance Improvement & Incident Analysis

Spearhead enhancement activities related to system monitoring and performance:

Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for video outages including what was done to resolve the issue, what can be done to reduce impact and what could be done to prevent future occurrences.

Documentation, Inventory & Systems Management

Manage and maintain surveillance system database.

Draft MOP and work request documents, collaborating with end users and department managers regarding system configuration and best practices.

Create and maintain electrical schematics, when installing, rearranging, and removing equipment and associated wiring within the Video Network.

Maintain inventory database of all VHO capital assets.

Other Duties

Performs other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Associate technical degree or 5 years related work experience.

Minimum of five (5) years related cable, satellite, and telephony industries knowledge.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with digital video in a multi-channel system.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and restore video service failures involving MPEG Transport streams, encoders, transcoders, Media Converters, Encryption, and resolve IP network troubles in the physical, data link, and network layers.

Extensive knowledge of Arris, and Synamedia technologies involved in video multichannel systems as well as layered connections and usage of LAN and WAN technologies.

Understanding of and ability to troubleshoot server hardware components and subsystems.

Demonstrated knowledge of RF, IPTV multicast, and ABR delivery technologies.

Knowledge of Video and Audio CODECS related to MPEG2, AVC (h.264), HEVC (h.265), and ABR HLS.

Knowledge of the TR101-290 Digital Video Broadcasting Measurement standard.

Basic knowledge of networking components and services such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, IGMP, HTTP protocols, DHCP, DNS and LAN/WAN technologies.

Working knowledge of multicast & unicast video transport.

Solid understanding of communication networking components (i.e.: routers, switches, LAN topology, subnets, Ethernet, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability/willingness to do shift work on a 24x7x365 basis including holidays and weekends.

Ability to exercise judgement within broadly defined practices in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Ability to effectively troubleshoot network communications issues utilizing network tracing tools.

Ability to interpret electrical schematics, when troubleshooting, installing, rearranging, and removing equipment and associated wiring within the Video Network.

Ability to isolate problems and troubleshooting issues down to the device level.

Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
