Job Summary
The Acoustics (Sonar) Engineering Technician will perform testing, maintenance, and operation of the Core Sonar System, including arrays, hydrophones, and transducer sensors. The role requires in‑depth technical expertise, strong system knowledge, and experience with commercial‑off‑the‑shelf electronics. Candidates must have prior U.S. Navy submarine experience, especially with sonar or hydrophone operation and maintenance.
Responsibilities
Perform testing, maintenance and operation of the Core Sonar System including arrays, hydrophones and transducer sensors.
Ensure that all systems function properly as designed and in accordance with the required test procedures, generate preliminary problem reports when discrepancies are found in equipment operation/functions of the Sonar system software, and assist in the problem resolution phases.
Provide technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
Perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; conduct preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in areas such as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency, and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
Use personal computer to perform analyses and develop documentation/reports.
May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Requirements
AA or other 2‑year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience, or HS + 5 years related (DoD/USN) experience.
Prior U.S. Navy Submarine experience.
Effective communication skills with internal and external customers and ability to coordinate across multiple organizations.
Flexibility with work hours and ability to work either first or second shift.
Position requires an active Secret clearance, the ability to reactivate a previously held clearance, or eligibility to obtain an interim clearance.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Experience with SONAR System Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Repair on U.S. Navy Submarines.
Experience with Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Electronics.
Prior experience in Submarine Construction/Overhaul.
Physical Requirements
Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity. A waterfront office work environment is normally encountered.
