Salary Range: Min $76,855 - Mid $90,000 (salary dependent upon experience)

Work Location: Washington DC Metro Area – HYBRID (2 days in office)

Summary
The Social Media Specialist/Writer is primarily responsible for planning, creating, and publishing engaging content across key social platforms and owned channels to support brand awareness, engagement, and conversion goals.

They also assist with writing and editing creative, engaging communications for the Council, including a variety of digital and print properties such as blogs, video scripts, website copy, etc., while ensuring consistency and quality across all channels.

The Social Media Specialist/Writer works collaboratively with colleagues and across the Council to carry out shared goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Open

Consult with and keep supervisor informed on the status of all projects.

Build coalitions internally and externally (with peers, team members, Member Boards, volunteers, collateral and associated organizations, etc.) to share best practices and achieve common goals.

Facilitate cooperation and teamwork throughout the organization. Communicate and operate in an open manner so that information and actions are clear and visible.

Core Responsibilities – Department Specific
Social Media

Plan, draft, schedule, and publish daily social content for LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Threads, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, and other channels tailored to each platform’s best practices and audience.

Monitor comments, messages, and conversations on all managed platforms, respond or elevate as appropriate, and help maintain a consistent, professional brand voice.

Coordinate with the content team to develop and implement an editorial calendar for NCARB’s social media channels.

Adapt longer‑form content (blogs, reports, webinars) into short‑form social media posts and series that are optimized for each channel.

Work with the Manager, Digital Marketing and data team to review, analyze, and understand data and research on NCARB’s communication platforms (social media, website, emails, etc.) and share information with team to inform strategies and campaigns.

Monitor new and developing social media platforms and make recommendations on where the organization should be represented or active.

Conceptualize and create high‑quality visual and short video content for various platforms.

Coordinate and contribute to the development of social media ad campaigns as needed to support Council initiatives and/or priorities.

Partner with Multimedia specialist to develop social media videos for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube shorts, and other platforms as needed.

Multi‑media Content Development

Assist with writing and editing articles for the blog, including news updates and informational content that drive traffic and engagement.

Support the creation and refinement of website copy, landing pages, webinars, newsletters, and other key web content to ensure clarity, consistency, and brand alignment.

Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of NCARB and its writing standards and styles; and, demonstrate consistency in adhering to those standards and styles in the editing process.

Develop a deep understanding of NCARB’s programs and services in order to provide accurate and knowledgeable content.

Edit a wide array of digital and print documents so that they are clearly written, accessible, and error‑free.

Work with team to update the company’s website and blog using the content management system (CMS) and ensure that web content is user‑friendly and search‑engine optimized.

As needed, create content on behalf of NCARB’s volunteers, including the Board of Directors, Committees, and Member Boards.

Layout templated communications using Adobe Suite applications as needed.

Assist with the preparation of materials for NCARB events and attend as requested.

Quality Control & Collaboration

Ensure consistency and quality across multiple communication channels and messages.

Help the team’s workflow process run smoothly and find ways to improve the process and procedures.

Assist with preparation for and participate in team reviews, retros, and planning sessions.

Establish and maintain strong client relationships, leading with a collaborative and service‑oriented approach.

Be proactive, collaborative, and resourceful in engaging with SMEs from across the organization.

Represent the Marketing & Communications team on Council‑wide initiative project teams to provide subject‑matter expertise and ensure the M&C team completes its deliverables for projects.

Compile research for special projects as needed.

Qualifications
Required

An exceptional command of the English language, and grammar, spelling, and punctuation rules.

Knowledge of AP Style.

Well‑developed formal and informal writing abilities, which can be applied to editing products that target a variety of audiences, from regulators to the general public.

Writing and story‑telling skills that focus on customer needs and reinforce the NCARB brand.

Demonstrated proficiency using technology and a wide variety of software applications to include Adobe (PDF) Applications and Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.

Familiarity with content management systems and the latest social media platforms and monitoring services.

Some minimal travel including weekends may occasionally be required.

Preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, or related field; or, combination of substantial related experience, training, and education may substitute.

3 or more years of relevant experience that includes digital and print writing experience.

Knowledge of Adobe Suite (e.g., Express, Premiere, Photoshop, and InDesign) and digital analytics (e.g., Google Analytics and Facebook Insights).

Some knowledge of HTML.

Familiarity with Agile Processes and Project Planning is a bonus.

Experience within the architectural profession is a bonus.
