The Performing Arts Manager oversees all technical, operational, and marketing aspects of the school district's theater facilities. This role balances high-level technical production with scheduling, talent booking, and mentorship to ensure professional-grade experiences for school and community events.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Production & Safety:
Serve as the lead technical consultant for all light, sound, and rigging. Manage setup, teardown, and safe storage for all performances while ensuring 100% compliance with safety codes.
Programming & Revenue:
Market the facilities to external users to maximize revenue. Research, book, and negotiate contracts/technical riders for professional performers presented by Alexandria Community Education.
Team Leadership:
Manage event-day staff, including ushers, security, and ticketing.
Financial Stewardship:
Develop budgets, manage expenditures, and pursue alternative funding through grants, sponsorships, and partnerships.
Stakeholder Communication:
Act as the primary liaison for user groups, providing clear pre and post event coordination to ensure client satisfaction.
Critical Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
Proven background in technical theater (lighting, sound, and rigging systems). Experience in venue management or event production preferred.
Education:
Post-secondary training in Theater Management, Stagecraft, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Technical Savvy:
Expert knowledge of theatrical boards, manual/electric rigging, and AV equipment.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional project management, communication, and the ability to motivate a diverse group of students and volunteers.
Flexibility:
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by the performance schedule; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Compensation:
$28.85 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
