Position
MIO is seeking a senior, hands‑on data professional to lead the execution of our market data strategy and advance our research data platform. This role sits on the Research & Investment Technology team and reports directly to the Director of Research & Investment Technology.
Operating at the intersection of commercial strategy, data engineering, and investment workflows, this role requires a blend of technical depth, business insight, and vendor expertise.
As an individual contributor, you will partner closely with engineering leadership to translate strategy into execution. You will work cross‑functionally with investment, technology, and legal teams to deliver high‑quality, scalable data solutions that support research and trading.
This hire will own vendor strategy and data sourcing while remaining hands‑on with data analysis, playing a key role in shaping how market data is acquired, modeled, and consumed across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Data Quality Management (30%)
Perform hands‑on data analysis using Python and SQL to support investment and operational use cases
Identify, investigate, and remediate data quality issues across datasets and vendors
Conduct root cause analysis and partner with engineering teams to implement scalable solutions that improve data integrity
Define data quality rules in partnership with investment teams and establish monitoring and reporting frameworks
Business Analysis (30%)
Partner with investment, risk, and middle office teams to gather and translate complex business requirements into data solutions
Develop a deep understanding of workflows across asset classes to identify data gaps and inefficiencies
Produce clear functional specifications and drive implementation in collaboration with technology teams
Serve as a bridge between business stakeholders and engineering
Program & Project Management (20%)
Lead cross‑functional data initiatives from inception through delivery across market data and research technology teams
Define project scope, timelines, and success metrics
Coordinate across teams to ensure timely, high‑quality execution
Drive prioritization and manage dependencies across multiple workstreams
Manage Jira boards, sprint planning, and facilitate daily stand‑ups
Manage relationships with key data providers, including Bloomberg, LSEG, ICE Data Services, and others
Support contract negotiations, renewals, and cost optimization efforts
Monitor data usage, licensing compliance, and entitlements
Identify new data vendors; lead proof‑of‑concept initiatives
Contribute to vendor strategy, including consolidation and rationalization efforts
Establish and manage vendor data budgeting and spend tracking
Desired Background
8+ years of experience in data, market data, or related roles within financial services
Strong hands‑on experience with data analysis using Python and SQL
Proven ability to operate as a senior individual contributor in a fast‑paced, high‑performance environment
Solid experience in business analysis, with the ability to translate complex requirements into scalable data solutions
Experience leading or contributing to cross‑functional data initiatives and programs
Strong understanding of financial markets and asset classes, including commodities, fixed income, equity indices, and digital assets
Experience in a multi‑strategy hedge fund or similar buy‑side environment preferred
Experience working with or alongside market data vendors such as Bloomberg, LSEG, and ICE Data Services
Familiarity with market data products and infrastructure, including Bloomberg (BPIPE, BVAL), back‑office data feeds, and concepts such as licensing, entitlements, and data governance
Experience working with data platforms, APIs, and modern data architecture
Hands‑on experience with AWS cloud environments
Hands‑on, execution‑oriented mindset
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to balance commercial, technical, and business priorities
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
High degree of ownership and accountability

Base salary range
