Position Summary:
The Senior Jazz Vocal Director leads the Cooperstown High School Jazz Rock Vocal Ensemble, an advanced co-curricular vocal group for high school choir students. This ensemble offers students the opportunity to deepen their vocal training through the study and performance of advanced jazz and contemporary vocal music. The director provides artistic guidance and musical instruction while preparing the group for school, community, and festival performances.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise weekly (often bi-weekly) rehearsals
Select challenging and stylistically diverse jazz repertoire suitable for high school voices
Provide vocal coaching with an emphasis on jazz styles, harmony, and ensemble blend
Prepare students for performances at school events, community venues, and vocal music festivals
Conduct auditions and manage membership requirements
Collaborate with the Concert Choir program to support co-curricular learning goals
Promote musical excellence, creativity, and professionalism among ensemble members
Program Mission:
To provide high school vocalists with an opportunity to study and perform advanced jazz and contemporary repertoire in a small ensemble setting.

Qualifications:

Strong background in vocal music education, with expertise in jazz and contemporary vocal styles
Ability to teach vocal technique, jazz theory, and ensemble performance
Experience conducting or directing student vocal groups
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Passion for inspiring students and enhancing the overall choral program
