A Day in the Life
The Commercial Manager is responsible for overseeing commercial origination, trading activities, and business development for a specific location within the grain commodity industry. This role involves leading a team of merchandisers, partnering with Operations Managers to ensure safety and profitability, and driving business growth through strategic planning and customer engagement.

What You’ll Be Doing

Manage grain origination and trading activities at the location.

Execute commercial strategies to meet regional goals for volume, margin, and profitability.

Manage facility financials, including budgeting, forecasting, new trades, etc.

Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth and risk mitigation.

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of merchandisers, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, emphasizing accountability and continuous improvement.

Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify professional development opportunities for team members.

Coordinate with location Operations Manager to ensure the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of grain facilities.

Collaborate on capacity planning, logistics, and inventory management to meet customer and market demands.

Support the implementation of safety programs and ensure adherence to regulatory and company standards.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, producers, and industry partners.

Negotiate contracts, develop tailored solutions, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.

Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the company's market presence/increase market share.

Skills / Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree MBA in Marketing, Finance, Ag Business, Ag Economics or Economics is preferred.

3-5 years of experience in grain origination, commodity trading, or related roles, with a strong track record of leadership.

Aggressive, self-motivated and able to work under pressure.

Excellent communications, computer and public relations skills.

Strong quantitative and analytical skills. Experience with P&L management is preferred.

Strong problem solving and conceptual thinking capabilities.

Exceptional communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
