Job Description
The Web and Information Designer, under direction, designs and produces a variety of graphical imagery, animations and other multimedia-rich applications. Manages architectures of websites, including content management system (CMS) and advising of staff.

Responsibilities

Manage and maintain the university’s WordPress multisite network, supporting 100+ websites across academic and administrative units.

Collaborate with content creators and stakeholders to develop, update, and maintain website content, ensuring clarity and consistency. Implement content strategies that effectively communicate the university’s message and engage the target audience. Train new content authors on web publishing policies and CMS use.

Design and implement visually compelling web layouts and features that enhance user engagement and adhere to branding guidelines.

Utilize third-party auditing and development tools, including Siteimprove, to ensure all websites are compliant with W3C standards and ADA accessibility requirements and collaborate with developers to implement necessary adjustments and compliance measures.

Review, test, and deploy updates for WordPress core, themes, and third‑party plugins to ensure stability, security, and performance.

Stay up to date with the latest web design trends, technologies, and standards, and propose innovative design solutions and strategies to enhance digital initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Three years of professional web design and development experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and graphic design applications.

Knowledge of HTML and the web design production process.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Oral and written communication skills.

Organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with WordPress, including content management, theme customization, and plugin management.

Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript for front‑end development and troubleshooting.

Experience designing responsive, user‑friendly web layouts aligned with branding standards.

Working knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA) and experience remediating accessibility issues.

Experience using web auditing or analytics tools such as Siteimprove and Google Analytics.

Experience testing, deploying, and maintaining updates to CMS platforms, themes, and plugins.

Experience managing a WordPress multisite environment.

Experience developing or modifying WordPress themes and/or plugins (PHP).

Understanding of SEO best practices and content strategy.

Experience training or supporting content authors in CMS usage and web standards.

Experience with web hosting platforms such as WP Engine and basic server/environment management.

Familiarity with performance optimization techniques (caching, image optimization, CDN usage).

Awareness of web security best practices (updates, vulnerabilities, plugin vetting).

Special Requirements

Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for equivalency must have a total of seven years of experience.
