Position Summary:
The Assistant Designer, Sweaters for Karl Lagerfeld Paris will support the design and development of a competitive fashion sweater product line that balances commercially relevant product with brand-right fashion direction. This role will assist the design team throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through production, while helping drive the brands strategic and financial objectives. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, technically skilled, and eager to grow within a fast-paced fashion environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
Create sketches for development by both hand and Adobe Illustrator
Assist with all aspects of design packages including sketching, tech packs, and maintaining line sheets
Research and develop innovative trims, yarns, and sweater details each season
Prepare and maintain tech packs from initial development through bulk production
Organize and maintain design development materials including artwork, trims, yarn worksheets, development samples, finalized tech packs, and line lists
Attend garment fittings and assist technical designers with fit updates and corrections
Revise and update tech packs while communicating changes and approvals to factories
Submit and approve artwork, strike-offs, lab dips, and development materials
Demonstrate proficiency in Illustrator flat sketches and hand sketching on figure
Create CAD presentations for internal and external use with speed and accuracy
Production and Overseas Communication:
Create and maintain charts for overseas sample requests
Communicate daily with factories regarding ongoing product development
Prepare samples for meetings, presentations, and market appointments
Assist with PLM data entry and creation of BOMs for production
Coordinate domestic and overseas product development activities and timelines

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or technical degree in Fashion Design or equivalent work experience
13 years of experience in sweater apparel design preferred
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop required
Strong technical sketching, hand sketching, and computer design skills
Familiarity with sweater constructions, yarn development, and garment development processes
Experience working with overseas factories and vendors preferred
Fashion savvy with the ability to identify and interpret commercially viable trends
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with PLM systems and BOM creation preferred

The pay range for this position is:

$60,000 - $65,000 per year.
