- EVAN HANSEN — Male, 18-18 y.o., All ethnicities. Smart, sincere, and excruciatingly self-conscious, Evan prefers to hover in the background, too afraid to step forward into the spotlight and risk ridicule or, what might be worse, no one noticing him at all. Must be a strong pop tenor: G2-B4.
- ZOE MURPHY — Female, 18-18 y.o., All ethnicities. Connor’s younger sister: smart, perceptive, and guarded. Drawn into Evan’s world while trying to understand her brother’s death. Mezzo-soprano.
- CONNOR MURPHY — Male, 18-18 y.o., All ethnicities. Troublesome and isolated, Connor appears in Evan’s imagination after his death. Bari-tenor.
- HEIDI HANSEN — Female, 40-49 y.o., All ethnicities. Evan’s hardworking single mother: loving but emotionally distant, managing guilt, pride, and financial burdens. Mezzo-soprano with strong belt.
- CYNTHIA MURPHY — Female, 40-49 y.o., All ethnicities. Mother to Connor and Zoe. Grief-stricken and seeking truth, she holds onto Evan’s version of reality. Mezzo-soprano.
- LARRY MURPHY — Male, 40-59 y.o., All ethnicities. A stoic father emotionally closed off after loss. Baritone.
- ALANA BECK — Female, 18-18 y.o., All ethnicities. High-achieving and perfection-oriented; masks insecurity through leadership and involvement. High mezzo-soprano / soprano.
- JARED KLEINMAN — Male, 18-18 y.o., All ethnicities. Wry, sarcastic, and defensive. Uses humor to hide vulnerability while supporting Evan’s lie. Baritone.
