Overview We are seeking a full‑time Technical Lead Audio Engineer in our Miramar, FL location. In this role, you will be a key technical contributor in loudspeaker development for significant new applications of known and new technology, and you will serve as a mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
Essential Functions Serve as a key contributor in the creation and review of loudspeaker products, addressing risky design aspects of product development.
Explore new technologies, features, and functions; understand and outline associated challenges and risks.
Utilize advanced testing capabilities and knowledge of materials to customize existing or develop new test methods to substantiate unverified aspects of product design.
Interpret industry and Garmin product qualification tests and their relevance and impact on product design, sharing knowledge with mechanical design team members.
Complete estimates on complex and risky loudspeaker designs, including tooling, part cost, and design time.
Negotiate processes, materials, and design feasibility with factory and vendors.
Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced audio engineers (Audio Engineer 1, 2, & Senior Audio Engineers).
May lead major explorations of product development projects comprising multiple modules or sub‑projects.
Demonstrate broad knowledge of Garmin’s business model, operations, production, sales and marketing.
Offer process improvement suggestions and author new procedures as appropriate.
Provide significant contribution to design reviews across multiple product types.
Complete broadly defined complex tasks, including taking conceptual ideas and putting them into practice.
Regularly demonstrate creativity and ingenuity to develop reliable solutions to complex problems.
Integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development whenever possible as part of normal job responsibilities.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge.
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
