Job Description
The

News Desk Producer

creates and delivers content to NBC affiliates, the NBC News Group, and international clients through the Orbit distribution platform. This role involves writing and editing stories in close collaboration with the newsgathering team, while exercising strong editorial judgment to prioritize and publish content effectively.

Job Responsibilities

Write, edit, and manage news‑of‑the‑day and breaking news content

Assign stories to writers, advertise stories and review for editorial accuracy

Collaborate with assignment desk and regional producers

Respond quickly to breaking news

Provide quality customer services to NBC News Group, affiliates and clients

Willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, and various schedules

Available to be on‑call for breaking news

Additional Responsibilities

Take editorial lead on political/election coverage

Assist DC bureau on daily package offer, including logging, writing and gathering of elements

Qualifications

10 or more years of experience as a local or network news producer/writer

Bachelor’s degree – preferably in journalism or communications

Must be able to work weekends, nights, and holidays

Must be able to work flexible hours during major breaking news

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong editorial judgment and customer service skills

Ability to work calmly in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment

Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments

Strong work ethic and organizational skills

Desired Characteristics

Knowledge and interest in political journalism preferred

Fully Remote:

This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from an NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.
