Position Summary

The Mechanical Designer

Technical Documentation role combines hands-on CAD design with the development of clear, user-focused technical documentation. This position is responsible for creating and modifying 3D models and drawings, while also producing installation instructions, specification sheets, and technical guides using SolidWorks and SolidWorks Composer.

The ideal candidate can translate engineering concepts into accurate designs and concise documentation for end users.

Key Responsibilities

Design Responsibilities

Create and modify 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks

Generate detailed drawings, layouts, and bill of materials (BOMs)

Support engineering with design updates, revisions, and product changes

Ensure alignment between design outputs and technical documentation

Technical Documentation

Develop installation instructions, user guides, and specification sheets using SolidWorks Composer or similar tools

Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation

Create visual content (exploded views, step-by-step illustrations) to support end users

Maintain and update documentation libraries, revision history, and release notes

Collaboration & Execution

Work closely with Product Engineering, Technical Support, and Testing teams to validate accuracy

Participate in project reviews and provide status updates on deliverables

Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet documentation deadlines

Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and ensure final deliverables meet quality standards

Required Qualifications

Hands-on experience with

SolidWorks (3D modeling and drawings)

Experience with

SolidWorks Composer

or similar CAD-based documentation tools

Ability to create both

mechanical designs and technical documentation

Strong understanding of mechanical components, assemblies, and design intent

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Strong written communication skills with the ability to simplify technical concepts

Qualifications

Education

Required

High School or better.
