Through its productions and the Parkway Playhouse Junior program, the organization fosters creativity and collaboration for both participants and audiences. Parkway Playhouse Junior specifically focuses on nurturing young performers from preschool through high school, encouraging artistic growth and personal development while building lasting friendships. Known as the longest continually running summer theater in North Carolina, Parkway Playhouse celebrates the local Appalachian tradition of storytelling through a variety of thought-provoking and entertaining performances. The theater serves as a cornerstone for cultural gathering and creative expression in the region.

Role Description
This is a contract on-site role located in Burnsville, NC, for a Director/Choreographer at Parkway Playhouse. The Director/Choreographer will be responsible for directing and choreographing stage productions, collaborating with creative teams, casting performers, and overseeing rehearsals. Additionally, the role involves coordinating with designers, technical staff, and production teams to ensure cohesive storytelling and artistic alignment, as well as mentoring and working with actors to bring creative vision to life.

Currently hiring for this season: Annie and Peter and the Star Catcher.

Qualifications

Strong directing skills, including theatrical storytelling, stage management, and scene blocking

Choreography expertise with experience in creating original dance numbers or adapting existing works

Ability to lead rehearsals, provide constructive feedback, and work collaboratively with creative teams

Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills

Experience working in community theatre or with non-profit organizations is an advantage

Passion for education and mentoring younger performers

Proven ability to bring together diverse talents to create engaging and high-quality productions

Bachelor’s degree in theater, dance, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience
