Part-Time Reporter - Evening Desk

KLCC News is looking for a talented journalist to join our award-winning team. The focus of this position will be to monitor and report on news developments in the evening. This reporter will work with the News Director and colleagues to prepare on-air reports, build digital stories and coordinate social media feeds as events warrant. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of traditional broadcast with proficiency in web, mobile and social media platforms. Some familiarity with graphic design, web layout and audio/video editing is desired. Knowledge of public broadcasting is a plus.

Working Schedule: This is an hourly, as needed, position, working up to 20 hours per week as assigned by the department. An evening schedule, such as 6pm-10pm M-F, is anticipated and may be adjusted as news coverage needs evolve. KLCC serves communities throughout western and central Oregon and some travel outside Eugene-Springfield will be necessary. Schedules may vary with hours increasing during peak periods up to 40 hours per week, up to 1039 hours in a 12 month period.

Required Education: High school graduation or equivalent, supplemented by related course work or training.
Required Experience: One (1) year of experience in journalism, digital content management and/or broadcast.
Preferred Education: Bachelors degree preferred with coursework in journalism, digital content management, broadcasting, graphic design, audio and/or video editing.
Preferred Experience: News gathering, research, writing, interviewing and editing. On-air presentation and operation of audio/video equipment. Creation of news, programming or promotional content for broadcast and/or digital platforms. Expertise in digital content management, graphical data display and editing. Familiarity with public broadcasting standards and values. Representing an organization on panels and public events.
Position Purpose: The Reporter will create and edit content for KLCC on-air broadcasts and digital portals, developing community contacts and monitoring issues of community concern.
Essential Functions: Report, write and produce journalistic content for broadcast and digital. On-Air reporting and hosting. Edit graphics, audio and video for use on-air and online. Monitor a "beat" at the direction of the News Director and propose stories within the assigned subject area. Participate in public media fundraising drives. Participate in local news coverage decision making. Develop and maintain news contacts. Participate in the production of KLCC News special broadcasts and series as assigned. Participate in community forums representing KLCC. Interface with members of the public about news developments during an assigned shift. Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of the organization. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement: This position works under the direction of the KLCC News Director.
Physical Demands/Working Environment: This position will work primarily in an office environment, with some field reporting and public events required. Some moderate lifting and transportation of equipment may be necessary. Work Safely.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Writing, reporting and editing content for digital and broadcast. Photography, graphic design and audio/video editing. Familiarity with content management systems and social media software. Knowledge of live streaming and podcasting. Familiarity with web graphics and data-driven storytelling techniques. Understanding of the mission and values of public media. Comfortable with public appearances and fundraising.
