Responsibilities
User Research: Lead and participate in qualitative and quantitative research methods; synthesize findings and translate them into actionable design requirements.
Solution Design: Lead and participate in discovery sessions; evaluate user requirements with product owners and stakeholders; illustrate design ideas using mockups, storyboards, process flows and sitemaps; specify designs through wireframes and prototypes to communicate with engineers and customers; build complex workflows and navigation; use analytical skills to identify trends and recommend UX improvements; contribute to Smile’s UX processes and stay current with best practices.
Customer Advocacy: Determine user needs from business requirements and constraints; advocate for user-centered design principles; validate flows and prototypes with user proxies and end-users; apply accessibility best practices and design inclusive experiences for diverse users, including users with disabilities.
Requirements
5+ years of experience as a UX/UI Designer or similar role; post-secondary education preferred.
Experience within an Agile SCRUM team.
Strong portfolio demonstrating ability to create valuable and meaningful experiences.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to translate ideas into clear design solutions and flows.
Excellent communication skills; familiar with standard design methodologies.
Proven visual design skills with clear visual hierarchies; familiarity with qualitative UX methods and tools (e.g., usability testing, remote testing).
Knowledge of interaction design and information architecture.
Proficiency in Figma (components/design systems, variables, interactive prototyping); experience building and maintaining design systems.
Experience in user research methodologies; healthcare design experience is an asset.
Experience designing for front-end frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Angular, React) and collaboration with front-end developers to ensure accurate implementation.
Nice to have: knowledge of FHIR and clinical data workflows; knowledge of US clinical measures; analytics and non-relational data; experience with advanced designs extending standard front-end frameworks (e.g., GoJS, JointJS, React Diagrams).

Salary range: $95,000 - $115,000 per year.
