Robots & Pencils is seeking a senior-level Art Director, Brand Experience to own and evolve the company’s visual identity as the organization scales. This is a fully internal role focused exclusively on brands, not client delivery.

This is a hands-on brand leadership position. You will define the visual system, establish governance, and lead execution across all external brand touchpoints. You will introduce structure, workflows, and quality controls that allow the brand to scale without dilution.

You will operate with full accountability for how Robots & Pencils shows up in the market. This is not advisory brand guidance. This is ownership of systems, decisions, and outcomes.

You will partner closely with executive leadership, marketing, and business development to ensure the brand consistently reflects the technical excellence and creative intelligence of our work.

Key Responsibilities
Brand Architecture & Visual Systems

Define and evolve the Robots & Pencils visual identity system

Establish and document brand guidelines, standards, and usage rules

Create scalable design systems and templates for repeatable execution

Define system boundaries for brand expression across digital, print, presentation, and motion

Identify inconsistencies, gaps, and risks in current brand execution

Develop a clear roadmap for brand system evolution aligned to company growth

Brand Governance & Quality Control

Act as final approval authority for all outbound brand materials

Establish structured intake, prioritization, and review workflows

Enforce visual consistency across all external-facing assets

Raise craft standards across the organization through clear expectations and feedback

Reduce ad hoc design work and delivery disruption through better systems

Brand Execution & Creative Direction

Lead high-visibility marketing, growth, and business development assets

Translate brand strategy into concrete visual outcomes

Provide creative direction across digital, social, presentation, video, and print formats

Ensure every external touchpoint reinforces brand clarity and credibility

Manage third-party vendors for video, motion, and print production

Provide clear creative direction, briefs, and quality control

Evaluate vendor output against brand standards and expectations

Establish reliable production partnerships that scale with the business

Building for Scale

Define the operating model for the Brand Experience function

Identify future hiring needs and role definitions

Recruit, mentor, and lead future brand contributors

Establish sustainable processes that allow brand quality to scale with growth

Hands-on motion or video creation experience is a plus, not a requirement

Required Skills & Qualifications

Deep expertise in visual identity systems, brand architecture, and governance

Proven experience leading brand within a consultancy, agency, or scaling organization

Portfolio demonstrating system-level brand thinking, not just execution

Experience managing external creative and production vendors

Confidence working with executive stakeholders and senior leadership

Strong operational discipline and comfort creating structure from ambiguity

High ownership mindset with the ability to both lead and execute

Nice to Have

Motion design or video production experience

Experience building internal brand teams from the ground up

Experience supporting marketing and business development initiatives

Familiarity with brand systems operating across digital and enterprise environments

Brand Stewardship Mindset - Treats visual identity as a strategic system, not a collection of assets.

Systems Thinking - Understands how guidelines, templates, workflows, vendors, and people interact to produce brand outcomes.

Executive Communication - Clearly articulates brand decisions and trade-offs to senior stakeholders.
