General Assignment Reporter (Multimedia Focus)

The Arizona Daily Star is seeking a versatile, curious and digitally savvy reporter to join our newsroom as a General Assignment Reporter with a strong emphasis on multimedia storytelling.

This is a fast-paced role for a journalist who is just as comfortable in the field as they are behind a camera - and in front of it. We're looking for someone who can cover a wide range of stories while producing compelling content across platforms.

Position Responsibilities

Report on a variety of topics, including breaking news, community issues, features, and trending stories
Shoot and edit your own photos, video, and audio in the field
Create engaging multimedia content optimized for web and social platforms
Produce short-form and long-form video for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and more
Appear on camera in short, informative, and engaging social media videos
Write clear, accurate and timely stories for digital and print audiences
Spot trends and develop story ideas that resonate with local audiences
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Self-starter who can juggle multiple assignments and pivot quickly on breaking news
Strong visual storytelling skills, including photography and video production
Comfort both behind and in front of the camera, including speaking on video for social media
Experience shooting, editing, and publishing content using mobile and/or professional equipment
Creativity and fluency in producing content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other platforms
Solid news judgment and an understanding of what drives audience engagement
Strong writing, interviewing, and fact-checking skills
A digital-first mindset and willingness to experiment with new storytelling formats
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment
Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
