Job Description
Purple Onion Catering Company is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Event Designer to join our team. As an Event Designer, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of business development, sales execution, event planning, management, and execution, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction. You will work closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to coordinate logistics and deliver exceptional events. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, excellent customer service abilities, and a passion for creating unforgettable experiences.
Responsibilities
Must execute sales for at least $750,000 worth in events per year to maintain seat
Plan and manage all aspects of events from contract signing through execution and completion
Provide excellent customer service and expertise to clients throughout the planning process
Coordinate with internal staff and vendors to ensure seamless execution of events
Supervise onsite execution of events, ensuring all details are executed according to plan
Collaborate with sales team on sales goals and strategies to achieve targets
Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners and vendors
Manage event budgets and expenses to ensure profitability
Conduct post-event evaluations and implement improvements for future events
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to enhance event offerings
What the Job Looks Like
Event designers are asked to attend 1 industry event per quarter
Event designers are asked to meet with 3 clients and venues per quarter to promote the facilities and services to prospective clients
Identify and engage with new customers through referrals, inquiries, networking, and cold calling
Build relationships with clients to close sales
Event designer to continue initial client communication through contract phase. Once an event has contracted, the event will be assigned to an event producer
Prepare accurate and timely proposals for clients and manage expectations regarding timelines and changes
Attend Bi-Weekly Sales Meetings, monthly sales meetings, and scheduled check‑ins
Run Tastings
Proposal Edits (numbers change, rentals etc)
For weddings, Event Designer is responsible for all proposal edits through walkthrough
For corporate/social events, ED is responsible for all proposal edits through contract phase
Event Designers are required to look at proposals one more time before final invoice is sent to ensure all pricing is accurate towards initial quote
Once an event has been assigned, Event Producer is responsible for sending calendar invite and hosting a meeting with Event Designer to go over event specifics thus far. Event Designer to come prepared and go through emails, proposal, worksheet, and any other communication needed to set success for the event
Event Designer is responsible for scheduling the following meetings including but not limited to walkthroughs, turnover introductions to client, and tastings, rental appointments
Attending Events: ED is responsible for maintaining client relationships, therefore is required to attend events. For events under 15K, ED is required to "pop in" to events (if event needs presence). For events over 15K, ED is required to follow the “stay until you feel comfortable” rule.
Maintain open communication with departments regarding catering logistics
Assist in training new colleagues on current job position duties
Track and submit comp time, AMEX reports, and weekly numbers updates
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hospitality, or related field
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in event planning and production
Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Exceptional customer service skills and ability to build relationships
Proficiency in MS Office and event management software
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds while on site at events
Salary & Benefits
Starting Salary ranges from $60,000- $70,000 and includes a scaled commission structure
401K Matching up to 4% after one year of employment
