Job Summary
Writes, edits and produces content for various news programs. Co‑hosts and delivers news magazine features and interviews for KJZZ’s flagship local program. Produces well‑edited audio pieces using digital editing software in a timely manner. Hosts live and pre‑produced audio for air. This position works in‑person to create content and host programming.
Essential Functions
60% – Writes, hosts, edits and produces content for local news magazine program and other programs as needed, conducts live and recorded interviews.
30% – Gathers and presents guest and story ideas, edits audio, creates highly produced field pieces, and produces content in a timely fashion.
10% – Fundraising efforts and events.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in journalism, English, broadcasting, communication or a related field and five (5) years of on‑air experience in journalism, news, multimedia, and audio board operations in recorded and live situations that includes demonstrated experience through an on‑air portfolio within the last five years that shows an understanding of target audiences, continuity, broadcast technology, interviewing skills, and well‑written on‑air news which includes two years of supervisory experience.
OR an equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full‑time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
Two (2) years live hosting and anchoring experience with a personable on‑air presentation and strong, friendly delivery that fits seamlessly into programs.
Three (3) years producing well‑written, contextual news with sound.
Three (3) years live broadcast experience.
Two (2) years of audio editing skills.
Portfolio of on‑air work within the last five (5) years that shows an understanding of target audiences, interviewing skills, and well‑written on‑air news provided in any media format.
One (1) year of full‑time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years.
Special Working Conditions
Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense. Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations. May require numerous evenings or weekends. May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen. May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver’s License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving.
