Job Description
Primary Purpose
Direct and manage the overall band program for the high school campus. Provide students with an engaging music education that fosters musical growth, teamwork, discipline, and performance skills. Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive band program consistent with district curriculum and state standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate in
Music (EC–12)
Demonstrated competency in instrumental music instruction
Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for music
Ability to direct concert bands and beginner ensembles
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Knowledge of instrumental pedagogy, music theory, and performance techniques
Ability to manage budgets, inventory, and equipment
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Student teaching or prior experience in band instruction preferred
Citizenship, residency or work visa required
Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with TEKS for music
Teach instrumental techniques, music literacy, and ensemble performance
Differentiate instruction to meet varying student skill levels
Assess student progress and provide timely feedback
Program Management
Direct all aspects of the band program (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
Organize and conduct rehearsals, sectionals, and performances
Prepare students for concerts, contests, and evaluations (e.g., University Interscholastic League events)
Coordinate band activities, calendars, and travel as needed
Student Development
Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture
Promote student leadership and responsibility within the band program
Ensure student safety and proper instrument care
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate records (grades, attendance, inventory)
Manage band budget, supplies, and instrument inventory
Communicate regularly with parents, students, and administration
Participate in ARD/504 meetings as required
Compliance and Professional Responsibilities
Follow district policies and procedures
Support campus and district initiatives
Participate in professional development and staff meetings
Comply with all UIL and district extracurricular guidelines
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student leaders

Maintain emotional control under stress
Work with frequent interruptions
Physical Demands/Environment
Standing for extended periods during rehearsals
Frequent use of hands for conducting and instrument demonstration
Occasional lifting/moving of instruments and equipment
