Remote 2D Game Artist

We are looking for a 2D game artist to create undead themed characters, generic fantasy heroes, fantasy item icons, and map art for a Deckbuilder Roguelike (PC/Steam) game. We want someone skilled at both designing character art and creating 2D final game assets, with enough experience to confidently help us create a cohesive look and feel to our game. The ideal candidate has professional game experience, can work fast, and is exceptional at navigating specific gameplay needs when designing character art and final art assets.
Art style is open (can be pixel art, illustration, etc.).
This is a paid contract/freelance job with enough to do for 1-2 months full-time, then it'll transition to part-time/as needed to support ongoing development.
Core Art Needs (Required):
Concept Art: Overall artistic design of the game, including full screen mockups, paintovers, thumbnail exploration, and reference gathering.
Character Art: Design 24+ character units (4 factions, 6 archetypes each, with very specific constraints)
Develop a strong visual language for the characters so it is easy for players to recognize both the faction and archetype at a glance.
These aren't 100% unique, each unit card has a Faction and an Archetype. For example, is an Archetype. All 4 Wolf cards have the same pose/silhouette, but are themed differently for each Faction (Blood, Frost, Plague, Shade).
One main player character Lich
~12 enemy character, think generic fantasy hero classes
Secondary Art Needs (Desired):
Cohesive paintovers/mockups of the game including UI elements
UI design and assets:
Card art frame/background per faction
General game UI design: buttons, health bars, etc.
30+ Upgrade/condition icons, extremely readable at a small scale
150+ item icons
Illustrated map art that fits the style of the game and constraints of the systems
Job Requirements:
Human artist
Strong character design skills
Strong concept art skills
Solid understanding of silhouette, color, and form
Speaks & writes professional level English
Amazing attention to detail in designing and creating final 2D assets
Ability to follow specific game design requirements when designing characters
Photoshop
Excellent time-management and self-management skills
Reliable ability to estimate art tasks and follow-through
Self-motivator - works well without much guidance/direction
Job Optional/Bonus Experience:
1+ shipped PC or Console video game
1+ years with Remote / Telecommute work
Experience implementing game assets in Unity
UI/UX Design and/or implementation in Unity
2D Character Rigging/Animation
Familiarity with the digital deckbuilder roguelike genre
Intense hatred of GenAI art
