Job Description

NBC News is looking for a highly motivated

Desk Editor/Associate Producer

with experience as an Assignment Editor plus Associate Producer to work in the NY Bureau. This role combines assignment desk responsibilities with hands‑on producing for all platforms both in the field and in house.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate coverage of news stories (breaking and ongoing) with staff, including producers, correspondents, broadcast shows, and platform partners.

Monitor story development in the Northeast region and communicate editorial and logistical information to managers, field/edit teams, and platforms in a timely manner.

Provide editorial support on breaking and ongoing stories by making calls and online research using tools like Accurint and Pacer.

Coordinate the gathering and distribution of elements for all the platforms: Today Show and Nightly News and other platforms: NBC News Now, Digital, affiliate stations, and other NBC News partners.

Produce and pitch story ideas to all the NBC News platforms.

Participate in daily conference calls about news coverage.

Organize & maintain bureau files, including list of contacts.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

At least 2 years of experience on an assignment desk and editorial production experience at a network, cable or digital outlet preferred.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Solid working knowledge of television news production, including feed capabilities

Strong newsgathering and social media skills

Excellent news judgment and communication skills

Must be willing to work flexible hours, weekends, and work breaking news on short notice

Must be willing to work in New York, NY

Must be able to multitask and work effectively in a deadline driven environment

Must be willing and able to travel

Desired Characteristics:

Skills of writing, non-linear editing systems including Avid and shooting are preferred

Strong news judgment & work ethic

Demonstrated strong knowledge and interest in news and current events

Strong interpersonal & communication skills

Solid working knowledge of newsroom systems & broadcast operations is critical

Hybrid:

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
