Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the south shore of Lake Superior between the communities of Munising (population 2,500) and Grand Marais. Amenities in Munising include basic shopping, medical facilities, and K-12 schools. Summers are generally warm and pleasant.
Major Duties
Preparing various surfaces of interior and exterior components of buildings and other structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, filling cracks, sanding and applying fillers and base coats.
Washing and sanding surfaces as necessary and treating them with oil, turpentine, or other preparations.
Selecting more sophisticated methods of surface preparation when necessary to ensure a high quality, decorative finish.
Mixing, thinning, blending, matching, tinting, and toning coating materials.
Adding pigment and/or thinners to gauge the change of color tone and drying properties.
Mixing stains, epoxies, enamels, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, plastic paints, bituminous paints, and other surface coating materials.
Applying coating materials using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other means of applications.
Applying coating techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements.
Setting up, adjusting, and operating spray painting equipment or other power painting equipment.
Sanding between coats and rubbing or polishing final coats as necessary to obtain proper adhesive between coats and specified finishes.
May bake finish on enameled and painted articles.
Utilizing safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Using and assuring proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
Using and maintaining tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, viscosity testers, thickness gauges, compressors, as well as common hand and power tools to do the work.
Maintaining records and documents actions.
Cut-off Dates: This is an open continuous announcement, in which applications are collected over several months, and have multiple cut-off dates. Applications received by the initial cutoff date will be considered first. **INITIAL CUT OFF is Monday December 29, 2025**.
