Position Overview


12News (ABC & NBC) in Beaumont, Texas, is seeking a temporary Broadcast Director for an expected duration of four to six months. The role is responsible for directing newscasts and other local programming using manual switching operations. The Broadcast Director will work closely with news, production, and technical teams to deliver fast-paced, compelling, and comprehensive newscasts and local programming. The candidate should have forward-thinking production ideas, strong technical expertise, and a high standard of on-air quality control. Familiarity with studio operations such as floor directing, camera operation, teleprompting, graphics creation, audio, lighting, non-linear editing, content management systems, and master control systems is required.


Responsibilities



  • Direct live newscasts using a Sony manual switcher.

  • Oversee the overall look and execution of newscasts and on-air programming, identifying and resolving potential issues before they reach air.

  • Maintain studio readiness and organization, including lights, sets, and production areas.

  • Create graphics for newscast and program elements.

  • Troubleshoot technical systems as needed.

  • Perform other broadcast production duties as assigned.


Requirements



  • Experience with manual production switchers, ENPS, BitCentral, and Chyron graphics systems is preferred.

  • Ability to adapt quickly and respond effectively to breaking news, severe weather, and other unexpected events.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.

  • Three or more years of directing experience in a medium or major market is preferred but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, television production, or a related field is preferred but not required.

  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Travel: Rarely, less than 10%.

  • Work Environment: Typical indoor office setting.

  • Physical Demands: Medium work, including prolonged sitting and standing, stooping, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds.
