Crowd Artist Job at Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank

Walt Disney Animation Studios is looking for inspired Crowd Artists, with strong artistic abilities layered on top of solid technical foundations, to work on populating our features with world‑class crowds. They will be an essential part of the film‑making process, utilizing a variety of assets and animation to match both the project's style and the Director's creative vision. This opportunity would be to support our upcoming feature Hexed.

Responsibilities

Support the story by populating scenes with crowd character assets and animation

Collaborate with peers to address creative and technical notes

Bring forth solutions and ideas, exhibiting openness to knowledge sharing

Develop and maintain crowd technology; identifying opportunities to improve tools and pipeline efficiency

Design crowd character behaviors and setups

Be a team player, willing to collaborate with peers to address creative notes and resolve technical issues

Proactively communicate accurate task estimates, and consistently meet deadlines

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Engineering, and related fields, or equivalent experience

Understanding of rigging and animation techniques

Strong interest in particle systems, AI/machine learning, or crowd systems (agent/brain design, simulation, and behavior)

Experience with commercial graphics packages such as Houdini

Solid understanding of the production processes and pipelines of CG animation, VFX, or video game productions

Ability to work with a team and collaborate closely with others within the department and other departments

Strong problem‑solving abilities

Knowledge of film language, demonstrating strong compositional skills

A refined eye for detail, natural movement and timing

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with scripting languages such as Python

Experience with the Linux or Unix operating system

Experience with object‑oriented programming such as C++ is a plus

Experience with USD is a plus
