Impact 89FM is seeking a dedicated and skilled student to serve as the Live Audio Director. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead live music and audio engineering efforts, both in-studio and on location, while mentoring a team of audio engineers and contributing to one of the nation’s top college radio stations.

Position Summary:

The Live Audio Director oversees all aspects of live audio production at Impact 89FM, including studio performances, on-location events, and the station’s weekly live music show, The Basement. This position requires technical proficiency in audio engineering, leadership skills to manage and mentor a team, and creativity to ensure top-quality live broadcasts that align with the station’s standards and mission.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the planning, setup, and execution of live music performances and interviews both in-studio and on location.

Manage, train, and mentor a team of audio engineers, ensuring technical and creative excellence.

Work closely with other departments to support live events and ensure seamless broadcast integration.

Serve as the first point of contact for technical issues related to FM operations during assigned Director on Duty weekends.

Ensure adherence to FCC regulations, copyright laws, and station policies.

Troubleshoot audio equipment, manage project workflows, and maintain organized storage systems.

Represent Impact 89FM at events and competitions and assist in the submission of entries for awards.

Basic Requirements

Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at Michigan State University.

Experience troubleshooting audio equipment and understanding audio engineering principles.

Proficiency in digital audio workstation (DAW) software, particularly Adobe Audition.

Familiarity with audio equipment such as microphones, mixers, and signal processors.

Experience with digital audio networks, live sound mixing, and studio recording.

Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.

Willingness to work outside regular hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience at Impact 89FM or another broadcast station.

Leadership experience and familiarity with the station’s mission, vision, and values.

Advanced knowledge of audio production hardware, software, and tools specific to radio broadcast, including Pro Tools, Telos Axia AoIP networked audio, and ENCO automation systems.

Successful completion of coursework in audio and/or sound design.

Experience with various musical instruments and associated equipment.
