Work Schedule & Coverage
8‑hour shifts, rotating through the following times: 06:30‑15:00, 09:00‑17:30, 11:00‑19:30. Weekend coverage and call are voluntary, 40 hours per week.

Position Summary
Responsible to the Director of Surgical Services, Unit Director/Manager, Clinical Supervisor and/or designee for overall nursing practice. Provides professional nursing care based on current perioperative nursing knowledge, following Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) Standards and Recommended Practice for perioperative nursing. Care includes assessment, analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions for the pediatric to geriatric population.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Completion of an accredited registered nurse program; BSN preferred.

Experience:

2 years prior operating room experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Team member and liaison between patients and staff.

Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.

Professional demeanor at all times.

High level of mental and emotional tolerance when dealing with patients, families, and co‑workers.

Knowledge of AORN peri-operative nursing practices.

Ability to maintain knowledge, skills, and competency in peri-operative nursing.

Ability to begin an in-house operating room course upon hire.

License / Certification / Registration

Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.

Meet American Heart Association standards for basic life support (BLS) and renew every two years.

Meet American Heart Association standards for advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and renew every two years.

Essential Functions

Develops and updates a plan of care based on ongoing assessment in the holding area, operative suite, and post‑operative setting.

Ensures supplies and equipment are available and functional.

Maintains sterile field during procedure.

Implements perioperative nursing techniques and responds to physiological changes.

Utilizes knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical technique, safety, positioning, and patient care management.

Documents individualized changes in plan of care and care of specimens.

Provides patient and family education during pre‑operative teaching.

Maintains awareness of professional issues and remains current on trends and advances in peri‑operative nursing.
