Telecommunications Technician 2
Responsible for planning, layout, and complete installation of new and retrofit commercial communications equipment and systems in accordance with plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
Responsibilities
Installation of video, data, and fiber cable (Cat 5E, Cat 6, fiber)
Terminating and testing horizontal copper (Cat 5, Cat 6) and fiber
Termination of riser cable, patch panels, and backbone cable
Installation of interior conduit, Panduit, Wiremold, cable trays (TC, MDF, IDF), and plywood racks
Read and understand plans and specifications
Mentor apprentices and assist in OSP installations
Pulling 100 pair or smaller unassisted and installing prefab assemblies
Assist with grounding, pull and junction boxes up to 24” × 24”, and tugger operations
Calculate wire load and conduit sizing for interior and exterior layouts
Perform operational risk management briefings, generate activity hazard analyses, and contribute to the risk register
Troubleshoot and fix Cat 5, 5E, and 6 cable problems; terminate various manufacturers’ copper termination blocks
Provide own hand tools; wear required safety gear (hard hat, glasses, gloves, safety vest, long pants, shirt with at least 4‑inch sleeves, safety‑toed boots)
Communicate safety, quality, production, and schedule with the team to ensure a safe work environment
Qualifications
4+ years of experience in the commercial communications industry with a high school diploma/GED, or 2+ years and an associate degree
Valid driver's license for equipment operation (training provided)
Experience with room build‑out, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic termination, and interpreting drawings and as‑builts
Familiarity with BlueBeam, Fluke Versiv, MS Office Word and Excel
Knowledge of BICSI guidelines for proper installation and termination procedures

Abilities
Lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds regularly; demonstrate strength, stamina, and proper lifting techniques
Transport a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance
Work at heights up to 60 feet, including on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and ladders
Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead on a repeated basis
Good vision (corrected vision acceptable) and ability to see and communicate in English
Use a standard ladder within weight limits while carrying tools
Recognize potential issues; apply general rules to specific problems and combine information to draw conclusions

Pay Range
USD $27.00 – $31.00 per hour
