Overview
The Office of the Legislative Counsel is seeking up to four talented Editors to join its editorial team. This is a full‑time, limited‑duration position scheduled to start September 8, 2026, and last through March 1, 2028, with possible extension. You will receive a nonpartisan editorial, technical and publication role, learning statutory construction, legislative drafting, legal writing principles and legislative form and style. You will read documents for logic and flow, correct errors in grammar, syntax, punctuation and formatting, conduct research, and collaborate with other Editors and drafting attorneys to ensure each document reaches its full potential before delivery.

Responsibilities

Work in fast‑paced, deadline‑driven legislative sessions and flexible interims, creating and designing projects.

Collaborate with creative and supportive colleagues to complete a wide array of projects.

Follow established processes while also contributing to process improvement.

Maintain high quality editorial standards and apply logical editorial decisions.

Work in a hybrid environment (remote and in‑office) located in the Capitol building in Salem, Oregon.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

At least one year of experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Excellent copyediting, analytical, and written and oral communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and flexibility to shift attention between draft documents and prepress work.

Knowledge of style guides and comfort with legal terminology.

Experience with legislative drafting and statutory construction preferred.
