Job Description
The Oak Hill United School Corporation is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled vocal music director for grades 5-12 to develop and lead three dynamic choral programs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for instructing students in vocal music, organizing performances, and fostering an appreciation for music. This role requires strong leadership, musical expertise, and the ability to inspire and engage upper elementary, middle, and high school students.

Primary Function
The primary function of a vocal music teacher is to guide and instruct students in the art of singing, focusing on vocal technique, music reading, and performance skills. This involves teaching students how to produce a healthy and controlled voice, understand musical notation, and develop a repertoire of songs.

Position Requirements

Plan, develop, and implement engaging choral instruction for students in grades 5‑12.

Teach vocal techniques, sight‑reading, music theory, and performance skills.

Direct school choir rehearsals and performances, including concerts, competitions, and community events.

Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and motivates students while accommodating varying skill levels.

Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.

Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and parents to support the music program.

Coordinate logistics for performances, including venues, transportation, and attire.

Prepare students for auditions, festivals, and other choral opportunities.

Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and participation.

Manage choir‑related budgets, fundraising efforts, and equipment.

Stay updated on best practices in choral education and participate in professional development opportunities.

Coordinate with other faculty and staff for additional performances including but not limited to theater productions as well as performances at other schools.

Personal and Professional Responsibilities

Bachelor’s degree in music education with a choral emphasis

Indiana teaching license

Excellent communicator; strong leader; excellent skills in conducting, performance, and music analysis.

Artistic vision and administrative skills to lead, maintain, and grow an already vibrant choral music program.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Capacity to supervise group work

Outstanding planning and problem‑solving skills
