Job Summary
The Communications Manager will help foster effective communications and engagement among frontline caregivers, hospital staff and community members across our College Station Region. Reporting to the System’s Director of Corporate Communications, this role will be primarily responsible for crafting and executing a multi-pronged employee engagement and internal communications strategy for the region’s hospitals in Brenham and College Station so that employees are informed and aligned to the System’s Mission, Vision and Strategy, as well as supporting public relations needs for the Region.

The role will also work collaboratively with team members across the Marketing & Communications department.

Internal Communications
Oversees all internal communications for the hospitals in the College Station Region to ensure regional alignment on employee communications.

All-staff/physician communications

Leadership communications

Board communications

BSWconnect stories

Townhall coordination

Hospital newsletters

Implementation of new communications strategies (e.g. Viva Engage)

Video creation

Charged with curating and developing a multi-pronged employee engagement plan, utilizing best practices from highly engaged workforces and culture-driven companies.

Serves as communications liaison for the College Station Region hospitals and supports local facility leaders (Presidents, CNOs, HRVPs, CMOs, COOs) on communications and engagement strategy development.

Monitors employee feedback, engagement surveys and sentiment to continually improve and enhance communications at the local level.

Assists in crisis communications efforts, working closely with System team members and hospital leadership to maintain transparency and effective communication during a crisis.

Embedded with each hospital leadership team to consult on internal communication tactics and on-site to support corporate-driven events as well as local initiatives/events.

Advises senior leadership on communication approaches that enhance the hospital’s reputation, promotes its brand and aligns employees with strategic initiatives.

In this role, you’ll be the bridge between our organization and the news media. Your role will involve pitching stories, building relationships with journalists, and helping to elevate our brand through earned and paid opportunities. You’re ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into a variety of media projects that require strong writing, creativity, and adaptability.

This position will also handle crisis communications at the local level, as well as assist with local events.

What You’ll Do

Develop and pitch media stories that align with our brand’s mission and vision.

Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts.

Write clear, concise, and engaging press materials, including press releases and media statements.

Respond to media inquiries and manage on-demand requests.

Problem-solve quickly and effectively when issues arise.

Monitor media coverage and create reports to track and measure success.

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency in messaging and strategy.

Qualifications

5+ years of internal and external communications experience, preferably with a focus in healthcare communications and working with hospital executives.

Creative and motivated self-starter. High-accountability work ethic and attention to detail.

Strong writer and storyteller. Graphic design and PowerPoint creation capabilities a plus. Aligns internal messaging with strategic direction and voice of the System.

Strategic thinking and understanding of internal communication programs, PR initiatives, engagement tactics and culture-driving initiatives.

Ability to work independently and manage projects with medium oversight.

Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with team members at all levels of the hospital and organization.

Proficiency in common workplace applications, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and other web and email applications, as well as SharePoint, video applications and more.

Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.

Experience: 5 years of experience in communications or related field.
