Job Summary and Duties
The Craftsman - HVAC will diagnose, install, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment at the College.

Job Duties

The Craftsman - HVAC will complete all work orders and respond to requests as assigned in a timely manner.

Provide customer focused service to stakeholders of MCCC at the West Windsor and Trenton Campuses.

Perform regular preventative and proactive maintenance and inspections to reduce and eliminate concerns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Initiate productive work activity as needed and work independently using both written and verbal work orders.

Use equipment, tools, materials, and supplies required to perform assigned duties.

Report any malfunction and/or safety hazard to supervisor immediately.

Acquire significant working knowledge of the College HVAC systems as needed through inspection, blueprint interpretation, and document analysis.

Assist with maintenance, adjustment, calibration, troubleshooting, and installation of controls on new, and existing, campus building automation and energy management systems.

Respond to campus heating and cooling issues reporting concerns and trouble shooting solutions.

Provide technical resolution to HVAC, building automation, and related issues.

Read, understand, and interpret system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to determine configuration and purpose of all system components.

Provide technical support, direction, and guidance to end users and other trades personnel.

Monitor and maintain HVAC systems throughout the West Windsor and Trenton campuses.

Provide monthly updated reports to supervisor, in addition to ancillary reports.

Identify potential problems, make adjustments or repairs as needed and report to the Team Leader, Supervisor, or designee.

Maintain an inventory of stock for parts that are used on a routine basis.

Maintain high level of technical proficiency in building system applications through regular educational activities such as seminars, training classes, conferences, and self-education.

Respond to campus emergencies, both during the day and after hours, as needed.

Follow all College policies, protocols, and procedures.

Follow industry standards to ensure best practices in HVAC are applied.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Positions in this class typically require: ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Physical Work

Stand or walk 2-4 hours at one time, up to 8 hours per day.

Sit for less than 2 hours during an 8-hour day.

Lift or carry up to 35 pounds in a range of motions from floor to overhead and up to 75 pounds to waist height occasionally (less than 33% of the workday).

Frequently use hands for grasping, fine manipulation, pushing or pulling (34-66%) of the workday.

Occasionally lift overhead, crawl, lie down, push or pull with forces up to 75 pounds (less than 33% of the workday).

Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental condition.

Climb ladders/stairwells frequently.

Possess ability to work at heights, full range of body motions and physical agility, and ability to maintain balance.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be a graduate of a recognized electrical/electronic/HVAC vocational technical program, or possess the equivalent in educational and practical experience.

High school diploma or equivalency (GED).

Journey level experience in maintaining, adjusting, calibrating, operating, repairing, troubleshooting, and installing electric, pneumatic, and direct digital controls on HVAC related systems.

EPA Universal Refrigerant License including R-410A.

Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Forklift Certification.

OSHA 10/30.

Aerial Lift Training Certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read and interpret both electric and automatic temperature control drawings and technical manuals for all systems and equipment serviced.

Possess understanding and technical ability of control theory and building operations to perform diagnoses of HVAC system controls and functionality issues.

Provide technical response, resolution, or recommendations to appropriate entity.

Ability to conduct detailed inspections of new construction, renovations, or standalone projects, and provide recommendations as needed.
