Job Summary
Manage, develop, coordinate and execute strategic communication and community engagement across city departments. Provide accurate, reliable information to the public and staff. Salary range: $67,978.56 - $91,771.06 per year.
Essential Functions
Lead engagement and planning for the department, establishing goals and campaigns.
Develop, create, coordinate and execute the communication, public relations, marketing, media and outreach programs for specific department(s).
Disseminate information in a coordinated manner.
Develop proactive communication and community involvement efforts targeting diverse populations.
Collaborate on the short‑ and long‑term planning and development of the city’s overall branding and visual identity programs.
Manage community engagement for all represented department efforts, including outreach programs, open houses and high‑profile projects.
Assist with city communications, including emergency operations and preparedness.
Lead or assist with responding to public requests for information or complaints, ensuring positive public relations and community trust.
Provide recommendations for promotional materials to promote department goals and objectives.
Oversee and manage department web‑page content and appearance.
Collaborate with the communications team to identify and create earned media opportunities and implement those strategies.
Produce and create key external communication materials in varied formats, using a style that is engaging, concise and appropriate for the audience.
Keep up to date on emerging communication trends and technologies and recommend and implement new tools.
Travel throughout the city as needed.
Other Job Functions
Maintain records of department media releases, website and social media content.
Assist with communication research and marketing strategy.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Multimedia, Communications, Journalism or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
At least 4 years progressive work experience in communications or marketing with emphasis on writing, campaign creation, and familiarity with modern media platforms.
Experience:
Project‑management experience and proficiency with online communications and marketing software such as Canva, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Asana, or similar.
Preferred:
Media relations and municipal experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent writing and communication skills, knowledge of website and social analytics tools, media relations, content management systems, graphic design, customer‑service orientation, ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines, and strong customer‑relation skills.
