Essential Functions

  • The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Classroom Instruction

  • Follow all rules, policies and procedures of Collierville Schools and the Town of Collierville, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school systems
  • Administers and develops subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
  • Assesses student progress towards standards, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan
  • Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues
  • Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
  • Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state law and board policies
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
  • Directs teacher assistants, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Supports other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans
  • Demonstrates and models on a regular basis the integration of technology in all curriculum areas

TV Studio/Streaming

  • Operate TV Studio equipment including but not limited to: digital cameras, non-linear editing, video switcher, audio mixer; assist with set up and breakdown of Board of Education and Board of Aldermen meetings
  • Ability to work with live-streaming cameras and equipment necessary to live-stream events through various means
  • Provide technical and production assistance for workshops and training sessions
  • Provide assistance to students and utilize student team members to produce high quality products
  • Assist broadcast production team with field production including audio/visual operations and lighting
  • Setting up audio/visual equipment for special events
  • Attend training sessions and/or seminars as required to maintain or enhance skills that may be required for the specific operations of the department
  • Perform basic and more technical repairs of audio and video material and equipment
  • Producing and marketing for special school system or Town events
  • Provide technical assistance for a variety of tasks including the TV network and access channel
  • Cooperate with district administrators and other staff members, as appropriate, in publicizing and promoting performances, exhibitions, displays, dedications or special programs sponsored by the schools
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Master's degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate
  • Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the Tennessee Board of Education
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position
  • Three or more years of experience in television and/or cable production
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license

  • Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems, philosophies, laws, regulations, and procedures; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
  • Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria and the goals and priorities of planning and development programs.

Ada Compliance

  • Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  • Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
