Studio Director – Workplace Interiors

Overview

Your role is to serve as a Studio Director and market leader in our Denver office, leading design teams, building client relationships, and driving strategic growth across practice areas.

Responsibilities

  • Enable the team to reach their individual potential and maintain a positive team environment.
  • Manage staff with an open‑door policy and develop programs that improve design, technical, communication, and project‑management skills.
  • Provide a creative, innovative, and nurturing studio environment through coaching and mentoring.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute new business initiatives, market positioning, and marketing strategies to win new projects and increase visibility.
  • Respond promptly to proposal requests and work closely with the marketing team on business‑development reporting and proposal creation.
  • Oversee hiring, performance reviews, learning, professional development, and staff engagement.
  • Lead project management and client satisfaction, ensuring service delivery, documentation, and trust.
  • Grow interior‑project business in practice areas such as Workplace, Repositioning, Landlord Services, Commercial Office, Mixed Use, Aviation, and Hospitality.
  • Monitor and manage budgets, profitability targets, billing, fee management, accounts receivable, and expense approvals.
  • Represent the studio’s interests and resolve issues efficiently while evaluating operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Finance, Human Resources, and Office Directors to support studio operations.
  • Build external and internal relationships, participate in professional organizations, and collaborate with other Studio Directors for best‑practice integration.
  • Maintain global relationship building, recruiting, and service integration strategies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in interior design and/or architecture.
  • Project experience across multiple practice areas, with a focus on workplace interiors.
  • Proven leadership and business‑development skills.
  • Certified interior designer preferred.
  • Experience managing studio operations, staff development, and fiscal oversight.
  • Strong client relationships and collaborative spirit.
  • Willingness to travel to other Gensler offices or client locations as needed.
  • Excellent references and personal portfolio of work.

Compensation

Base salary range of $115,000 – $140,000 annually, plus bonuses and benefits.
