Job Title

Director – Portfolio Finance (Barings Portfolio Finance Department)

Location: Boston (Fan Pier)

Overview

The Director serves as the ‘deal quarterback’ for Barings’ portfolio finance team, overseeing underwriting, evaluation, diligence, structuring, execution, legal negotiation, and ongoing monitoring of fund finance investments.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and evaluate transaction proposals across private market asset classes, including private credit, secondaries, real estate debt, diversified private equity, and GP financing.
  • Lead due diligence, structuring, and investment thesis development.
  • Drive transaction execution, including legal negotiation, closing, and post‑closing monitoring.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, investment analysts, structuring leads, legal counsel, and external partners.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and leadership to junior team members.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top university with ideally seven (7) years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, credit hedge funds, private credit, or other alternative investment experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and corporate debt concepts such as Debt/EBITDA, LTV, DSCR, and Debt Yield.
  • Deep understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and motivations of the primary participants in the investment management ecosystem.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to succeed in a fast‑paced, team environment.
  • Ability to conduct initial and ongoing research, analysis, and due diligence of various asset classes and understand the associated risks.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and deliver work products on short timeframes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and experience with financial applications.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Significant professional experience working on complex negotiated transactions.
  • Experience with at least one alternative asset class and a good understanding of the risks and operations of others across the alternative investment landscape.
  • Comfort with negotiating legal documents and a clear understanding of appropriate terms for each transaction.
  • Deal underwriting and execution experience, including drafting, negotiation, and review of transaction documentation; preparation of investment approval documentation; and coordination with operations and onboarding teams to address implementation and reporting issues.

Base Salary

$145,000 – $180,000 plus additional incentives.
