USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is recruiting participants for the Everyday Respect research project. The project analyzes communication between police officers and drivers using body‑worn camera recordings and aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and understanding of officer‑civilian interaction.
Research Participant

Research participants will watch 2–5 police traffic stops recorded on body‑worn cameras and answer questions regarding their perceptions of these interactions. The role requires a minimum commitment of 2 hours, with up to 5 hours appreciated. Compensation is a Visa gift card of $50–$100, depending on participation duration.
Video Annotator (Resource Employee)

Video annotators will be trained to complete a series of objective and subjective video annotation tasks. Work is remote and requires a minimum of 30 hours in total, with potential for up to 35 hours per week and a maximum of 120 hours over up to three months. Paid training is provided.
View high‑definition video footage captured by police body cameras and record information about interactions.
In initial phases, provide objective measures (e.g., whether the officer introduces themselves, explains the reason for the stop, or conducts a search).
In later phases, provide subjective assessments of communication between officers and drivers.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested; the university reserves the right to add or change duties.
Qualifications

Reliable access to a computer and high‑speed internet, or ability to commute to the University Park Campus of USC.
Attention to detail over extended periods while watching videos.
Ability to handle confidential materials and sign a nondisclosure agreement and media policy agreement.
Proficiency in basic computer software such as Microsoft Word.
Comfort with focused evaluation of substantial amounts of video and audio data for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).
Exceptional attention to detail.
Compensation and Hours

Hourly rate: $22–$30 per hour.
Hours: 30–120 total hours over up to 3 months.
Employment may be extended at the university’s discretion.
