Mississippi Public Broadcasting is a trusted multimedia organization that educates, enlightens and entertains Mississippians. As the only statewide radio and television broadcast network, MPB connects Mississippi households and communities. MPB programming focuses on the people, resources and attractions that reflect Mississippi's unique culture and diverse heritage. Children's educational television programs constitute a major portion of the daytime and weekend morning schedules. MPB provides a valuable resource to Mississippians in disseminating information as part of the state's emergency preparedness and response system. Every weekday, MPB News produces 11 newscasts dedicated to Mississippi stories. In 2015, MPB launched the latest iteration of the MPB Public Media App. With live stream, on-demand episodes of both radio and television favorites and the latest from MPB news, the MPB App provides listeners and viewers with a way to stay connected, no matter where in the world they may be. MPB reaches over 50,000 people a day through various social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. MPB's social channels provide information, news and entertainment around the clock, even in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and execute special content projects from concept through delivery, ensuring quality, timeliness, and alignment with organizational priorities.

Serve in various roles on assigned television and multimedia productions, including producing, directing, planning, scripting, shooting, and oversight of post-production.

Write and develop content across platforms, including broadcast scripts, digital content, and promotional materials.

Produce pledge and fundraising programming in collaboration with the MPB Foundation and Communications teams.

Collaborate interdepartmentally with Television, News, Radio, Communications, and the Foundation to ensure cohesive storytelling and strategic alignment.

Serve as a liaison to independent producers and external production companies seeking partnership or distribution opportunities with MPB.

Manage relationships and workflows related to national content distribution, including coordination with public television distributors and partner organizations.

Evaluate external content proposals for alignment with MPB’s mission, editorial standards, and audience strategy.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.

Contribute to creative strategy and identify opportunities for innovative storytelling, partnerships, and audience growth.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Content Department’s objectives.

Creative thinker with strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.

Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Need to Be Successful

Demonstrated experience in writing for broadcast and/or digital platforms.

Strong understanding of production workflows, including pre-production, field production, and post-production.

Ability to work effectively across departments and build collaborative relationships.

Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.

Creative thinker with strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.

Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 1-4 years of experience.

Agency preferred qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media Production, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

7+ years of experience in media production, including producing and directing for television or multimedia platforms.

Experience working with external partners, vendors, or content distributors.

Experience working in public media or nonprofit broadcasting.

Familiarity with national public television distribution processes and standards.

Experience supporting fundraising or donor-focused content initiatives.
