Artistree, a nonprofit community arts center located in South Pomfret, VT, is looking for a Theatre Artistic Director for the Grange Theatre. The Theatre Artistic Director position will work in collaboration with the Theatre Educator, Programming Director, and Artistree programming staff to ensure that the Artistree Theatre program realizes its objectives: a full year-round calendar; a diverse array of educational programming; artistic excellence; community collaborations; audience engagement; and financial sustainability.
The Artistic Director role is a full-time position at our South Pomfret, VT campus, reporting to our Executive Director. The role is typically Monday through Friday during business hours, with some weekend and evening activities as required. The salary range for this position will be $60,000 to $65,000 per year, based on experience.
General Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Executive Director to shape and implement the Grange Theatre’s artistic and educational vision
Develop and oversee year-round theatre programming, including productions, workshops, Artist-in-Residence programs, and ACT/ACT Jr. offerings
Work with programming staff to create engaging youth, adult, and family theatre classes and educational experiences
Recruit, support, and manage directors, teaching artists, performers, designers, and production staff
Oversee productions in the Grange Theatre, including scheduling, staffing, technical needs, and production budgets, as well as theatre rentals, community partnerships, and visiting artist opportunities
Manage theatre operations including ticketing, front-of-house support, concessions, and production calendars
Serve as Artistree’s primary liaison with Actors Equity for professional productions
Collaborate with marketing, finance, development, and programming teams to support promotion, budgeting, sponsorships, and organizational goals
Act as a public advocate and spokesperson for Artistree’s theatre programming within the community and broader arts network
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in theatre, arts education, or performing arts management
Experience managing theatre productions, programming, or a performing arts venue; experience with Actors Equity or Equity theatre is a plus
Bachelor’s degree in theatre, arts administration, or a related field preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills; ability to work with a wide range of people, from youth participants to professional artists
Organized, adaptable, and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
Experience managing budgets and balancing artistic goals with financial sustainability
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for rehearsals and performances
Passion for community arts, education, and creative engagement
