Responsibilities

The Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery.
Maintains shift documentation (i.e., Metal Detector and Batch Order Verifications)
Reads production schedule and plans accordingly
Interprets schedule in MicroStrategy
Prints labels on different printers, selects correct program, and cleans printers
Performs nitrogen testing
Monitors codes, dates and prices to maintain the operation of packaging machinery
Maintains adequate roll stock and ensures all packaging materials are available for each machine
Sets up and writes new programs for bag makers
Writes and/or edits machine micro‑logic to maintain an efficient, low‑waste operation
Creates and modifies code dates
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment
Sets up and makes minor scale repairs and adjustments
Performs span calibration and adjustments on scales and make minor adjustments to formers
Operates packaging equipment including case sealers and robot cells, handling machine setups, troubleshooting, changeovers, procedural adjustments, sanitation cleanup, preventative maintenance and shutdown
Plans ahead for machine changeovers and efficiently switches between products
Monitors and adjusts each machine to ensure proper cut‑off of film and bags have proper end seals and back seals as required
Ensures machines run at standard speeds
Monitors product appearance and adheres to weight control program
Identifies and resolves packaged product quality issues
Properly accounts for product run‑off, sorts through and reworks all good product
Keeps machines and work areas clean, wipes packaging machines off and blows down area when required
Immediately reports any maintenance problems to the appropriate technician and/or supervisor
Practices safety and hygiene guidelines for safe housekeeping and personal protection
Stores supplies in designated areas
Maintains clear work area aisles/exits and removes trash from the floor
Follows safe lifting/carrying instructions for various sizes, shapes and weights, reports equipment issues and job‑related injuries to supervision
May maintain shift documentation (i.e., Metal Detector and Batch Order Verifications)
May provide leadership and direction to packers
May perform as Back‑up Packaging Coordinator or other technical/skilled position
May monitor and replenish seasoning on overhead to ensure proper coverage on product
Mandatory overtime may be required
May perform other duties as required
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of production experience in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to comply with the physical demands of constantly lifting and moving stock by hand or with manual equipment, including pallet jacks and forklifts. Ability to lift 40+ lbs. regularly and occasionally more than 50+ lbs. with assistance. The job involves continuous standing, frequent walking, use of hands, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and pushing/pulling. Weight handling up to 100 lbs., with occasional loads exceeding 100 lbs. requires manual dexterity and repetitive twisting. Adequate flexibility, balance, hearing and vision are essential.
Work Environment

Employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, hot and/or wet or humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels are usually loud. Lighting, temperature, ventilation and vibration are generally good, with fair noise and fair vibration conditions.
Compensation & Benefits

Individual base pay depends on work location and factors such as experience, job‑related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
