Lead Audio Visual Operations Technician

Our luxury Four-Diamond hotel on Long Island is seeking a Lead Audio Visual Operations Technician to join our IT team at The Garden City Hotel in Long Island.
This role requires a strong passion for hospitality, events, and audiovisual technology, along with a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. The Lead AV Operations Technician will report directly to the Audio Visual Manager and collaborate closely with the AV team and hotel operations staff to deliver exceptional event experiences. The Lead AV Operations Specialist is responsible for delivering and supporting technology services for meetings and events, including networking, desktop support, audiovisual systems, high-speed internet access (HSIA), video conferencing, webcasting, and basic event lighting.
Key Responsibilities

Provide real-time troubleshooting and technical support to clients and staff with varying levels of technical proficiency.
Diagnose and repair AV equipment, including audio, video, lighting systems, networking hardware, and related technology.
Troubleshoot personal computer hardware/software issues, peripheral devices, mobile devices, and network connectivity problems.
Coordinate with hotel teams and the AV Operations Manager to ensure all technological requirements are prepared prior to client arrival.
Deliver proactive, anticipatory customer service while building strong working relationships with GCAV team members, departments, and vendors.
Attend BEO (Banquet Event Order), pre-conference, and production meetings as required.
Support daily operations, including event setup and strike, operating in-room equipment, and assisting with other AV-related functions throughout the property.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, addressing requests and ensuring a smooth event experience.
Collaborate with the Production team to fully understand client technical needs before each event.
Assist with additional operational tasks as needed to support the department.
Participate in collaborative technology and operational projects across departments.
Review and maintain departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on a quarterly basis.
Uphold and represent GCAV's cultural and service standards.
Demonstrate initiative and strong problem-solving skills.
Maintain a polished, professional appearance in accordance with GCAV dress code standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Equipment & Technical Expertise

Audio : 4–48 channel analog/digital mixers, Wireless lavalier and handheld microphone systems, Push-to-talk microphone systems, & Audio recording equipment
Video : Video switchers, Projectors and LCD displays, & LED video wall systems
Lighting : Understanding of lighting plots and lighting design concepts, Familiarity with rigging and event lighting best practices
IT & Networking : Wi-Fi troubleshooting and hardline internet connectivity, Knowledge of DHCP and static IP addressing, Collaboration tools and conferencing systems
Hybrid Events : Familiarity with virtual event platforms and livestream technologies, Experience with cameras, encoders, and lighting for broadcast or streaming events
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required;

Bachelor's Degree preferred
Bilingual in English and Spanish required*
8+ years of experience

supporting audiovisual and IT equipment and computer systems
Previous

customer service or hospitality industry experience preferred
Strong working knowledge of audiovisual systems including: Analog and digital audio mixers, Wireless microphone systems, Video switchers, Projectors and professional display systems
Proficiency with:

Behringer X32 ,

Roland video switchers

&

Blackmagic Design switchers
Basic familiarity with

Yamaha MTX

and other centralized control systems
Understanding of

networking fundamentals , architecture, and applications
Experience installing and configuring operating systems and hardware for

Mac, PC, LAN environments, and servers
Proficiency with

Microsoft Office ,

PowerPoint ,

Canva , and

Apple iWork
Bilingual in English and Spanish required*
Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, and weekends when events require
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to

25 pounds

without assistance
Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and stooping
Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods
Ability to climb ladders and work at height for extended durations
