Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to produce and maintain high‑quality support documentation for engineering products manufactured in Clevedon and used globally across distributed manufacturing sites.
This role will focus on creating clear, structured, and compliant technical documentation including upgrade instructions, service and maintenance procedures, installation documentation, and commissioning documentation for complex engineering products.
You will work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, and internal stakeholders to ensure documentation is accurate, user‑friendly, and aligned with company and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Documentation
Plan, research, write, and edit technical documentation from concept through to release
Produce service, maintenance, installation, upgrade, modification, and commissioning documentation
Ensure documentation aligns with company house style and quality standards
Content Accuracy & Clarity
Translate complex engineering information into clear and concise procedures
Ensure terminology, structure, and formatting remain consistent and easy to follow
Gather technical information from SMEs, drawings, existing content, and direct product interaction
Visual & Technical Content
Create and manipulate technical images, illustrations, and photographs to support documentation
Support extraction and use of views from 3D models where required
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work with engineering and technical stakeholders to review and verify documentation
Proofread and edit documents to ensure complete accuracy before release
Support knowledge sharing and documentation improvements across teams
Compliance & Standards
Ensure documentation complies with relevant industry standards and directives
Maintain document quality and adherence to internal documentation processes
Skills & Experience Required
Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience in mechanical or electromechanical engineering
Engineering apprenticeship or forces engineering background also considered
Minimum 3 years’ technical writing experience within an engineering environment
Experience writing service, testing, or maintenance procedures for complex products
Experience using Simplified Technical English (STE)
Understanding of Microsoft Office and SharePoint 365
Experience using image manipulation software such as CorelDraw
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical diagrams accurately
Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with technical stakeholders
