Cannonball is seeking a Copywriter to join our creative team. We’re looking for a creative storyteller with 3+ years of experience who can create thoughtful, compelling copy and contribute unique ideas to our clients. Can be pro or con the Oxford comma (although there’s only one correct answer here).
You’re a detail-oriented, self-starter who is eager to continue developing your writing and concepting skills across social, digital, video, collateral, and promotion. Your role will be to assist senior level creatives on day-to-day projects, while also developing original visual looks and creative ideas.
You like a challenge, want to learn, and continue to grow.
Cannonball is an opportunity to hone your talents at an independently owned, creatively driven shop, led and supported by people who share your love for a great idea and enthusiasm for creating. And probably also a love of hot takes when it comes to movies and tv shows, brackets, bingo, potlucks, and more.
We treat every job, no matter how small, as an important one, and work on a variety of clients, from local to regional to national brands.
We have a hybrid work schedule, and work from home Mondays and Fridays.
Our culture is relaxed and open. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, and while a late night here or there isn’t out of the question, we believe our work gets better when it’s one thing in our lives — not the only thing. We support each other and our community, with up to two paid volunteer days at your choice of non-profits around the metro.
Ideal Candidates Should Possess the following minimum qualifications:
BA in journalism/advertising, English, or a related field of study.
Must live in the St Louis metro area and be able to work from the Cannonball office at least three days per week.
The ideal candidate for this opening will have at least 3+ years of experience, preferably in an agency setting, but not a deal breaker. Other preferred qualifications include:
Excellent writing and grammatical skills
Never afraid to ask questions
Collaborating with ease, respectfully taking and giving constructive feedback
Solid organization and communication skills; including timely replies
A strong copyeditor who isn’t precious with each sentence (we think editing is as important as writing)
Capacity to understand how copy and design work together
The ability to meet deadlines, manage time efficiently, and ask for help when needed
Summary of essential job functions
Collaborate with art directors and other senior creatives to generate concepts, copy, and ideas
Create original concepts and messaging that get people’s attention across various platforms in a time when attention spans are shorter
Presentation of concepts internally (presenting to clients is nice to have but not a need)
