Position Summary
PSU’s Government and Community Relations unit (GCR), located in the Office of the President, coordinates the university’s legislative and advocacy efforts at the federal, state, and local levels. The unit builds and strengthens relationships with campus partners, community organizations, and business leaders to promote investment in and support for the university, its programs, and initiatives.
The Government & Community Relations Coordinator provides essential administrative, communications and legislative support to the GCR unit and to Presidential advisors. Responsibilities include handling travel arrangements, meeting logistics, correspondence and other administrative tasks in a confidential environment.
The position is based in Portland, OR, but will occasionally require travel on behalf of the university and may involve work during evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
Provide administrative support to the GCR unit and Presidential advisors.
Coordinate travel, meeting logistics and correspondence.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Occasionally travel, work nights and weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and experience.
Knowledge of standard policies, procedures, services, tools and/or equipment in administrative support.
Professional communication skills with a variety of audiences.
Attention to detail.
Basic accounting ability.
Willingness to travel and to work occasional nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in political science, government relations or related field.
At least one year of experience in legislative advocacy or policy.
Experience working with the public, elected officials and higher education administrators.
Knowledge of Portland State University and the metropolitan area.
Experience supporting professionals in a fast‑paced, high‑profile work environment.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend work.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $43,872 – $49,349 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
