Design Directors play a crucial role in shaping the creative direction of our projects and guiding a diverse team of designers across various disciplines. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of design principles and a proven track record of delivering exceptional results that resonate with project stakeholders.
What You Will Do

Leadership & Strategy : Provide visionary leadership for the design team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration; develop and implement strategic design initiatives that align with client goals and business objectives.
Client Engagement : Build and maintain strong relationships with clients; serve as the primary point of contact for major projects, ensuring clear communication and satisfaction.
Mentor, Coach and Support Growth : Guide designers in discovering strengths, mentor and coach to enhance skills; provide open communication, active listening, and thoughtful questioning to unleash potential within a People First culture.
Creative Direction : Oversee design projects from concept through execution, ensuring ideas are innovative, impactful and aligned with the firm’s high standards; inspire the team to explore new concepts.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration : Collaborate with practice area experts, client relationship leaders, and regional leadership to integrate diverse perspectives and enhance overall project delivery.
Quality Assurance : Ensure all deliverables meet exceptional quality and firm standards; conduct regular reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Market Trends & Innovation : Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive insights; bring fresh ideas to keep Gensler a leader in design excellence and published in the marketplace.
Your Qualifications

Current NCIDQ certification as an Interior Designer, Licensed Architect, or equivalent certification preferred and required for titled status.
Bachelor’s degree in Design, Architecture, Fine Arts, or related field.
LEED AP or WELL AP preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of design experience, with at least 5 in a leadership role at a highly regarded design firm.
Commercial experience required; preferred experience in hospitality, multifamily, senior living, cultural, public amenity, and workplace interiors.
Proven track record of delivering successful, innovative design outcomes that significantly impact client satisfaction and business growth.
Exceptional portfolio showcasing a variety of projects, highlighting innovative approaches and client solutions.
Strong understanding of design principles, user experience, and excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
