Assistant Director of Sports Communications

Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate for a full‑time, 12‑month position reporting to the Director of Athletics. We are a public liberal arts university located in Willimantic, Connecticut.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform daily media operations for intercollegiate athletics, including writing press releases, feature articles, and coordinating interviews.

Update the athletics website and social media platforms, executing a comprehensive social media strategy to promote athletic achievements and fan engagement.

Create engaging digital content such as videos, photo shoots, and social media posts, and provide input on creative strategies.

Support home game operations, including communication with opposing sideline staff, press box operations, media relations, public address announcements, live stats, and live stream management.

Compile, maintain, and report statistics for all teams in accordance with NCAA and conference standards.

Perform other duties related to the above responsibilities as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of federal and state laws, NCAA and conference regulations, university policies, and best practices in sports communications. Demonstrated ability in writing, editing, media relations, statistical software (LiveStats, StatCrew/Genius), social media expertise, website management, live video streaming, graphic design, and video editing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
May require evenings, weekends, and outdoor work during games, events, and other athletic activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in communication, sports management, journalism, or a related field.

Three (3) years of experience in media relations or sports communications, preferably in a collegiate environment (comparable credentials or experience will be considered).

COMPENSATION AND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
The position is compensated at the Administrator 3 salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF).
