Overview
As Associate Vice President, Head of Transactions and M&A, you will be responsible for all business development transactions within a specific therapeutic area such as Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiometabolic Health, or Genetic Medicines. This includes M&A, in‑licensing, out‑licensing/divestitures, and equity investments.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all transactions across all stages of development (discovery, preclinical, clinical, commercial, etc.) including negotiations for business deals, licensing agreements, mergers & acquisitions, and strategic collaborations.
Lead deal teams and collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Legal, Corporate Investment & Financial Banking, Accounting & Finance Planning, Alliance Management, etc.) to maximize transaction success and drive continued efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
Coach and oversee Senior Directors on the Transactions team leading and executing transactions.
Identify and evaluate external opportunities to grow the company portfolio and drive continuous business growth in partnership with the TA Search & Evaluation team.
Influence senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners on key decisions and opportunities.
Lead large‑scale business development initiatives, projects, and programs with significant risk, financial/resource requirements, and complexity.
Create and foster strategic relationships with key external players to identify and anticipate opportunities for growth.
Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business.
Identify long‑ and short‑term partner, competitive, and environmental trends.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum 10 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry in roles such as business development, research and development, finance, sales or marketing, new product planning, or project management.
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree; graduate degree (MBA, PhD, MD) preferred.
Legally authorized to be employed in the United States; sponsorship for visa not anticipated.
Additional Skills & Preferences
Experience in licensing, M&A, and equity investments in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
Life sciences banking and/or consulting experience preferred.
Strong understanding of clinical development and commercial landscape.
Proven collaboration, influence, and negotiation skills with executives.
Strong knowledge of R&D and commercialization cross‑functional work.
Effective problem‑solving and analytical skills for complex business issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication, self‑management, and organizational skills.
High learning agility, adaptability, and ability to handle ambiguity.
Self‑starter with bias to action.
Compensation & Benefits
Anticipated total compensation ranges from $243,000 to $391,600, excluding benefits. Employees are eligible for a company bonus based on performance and a comprehensive benefits program including 401(k), pension, medical, dental, vision, prescription drug benefits, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, paid time off, leave of absence, and well‑being benefits.
