Eligibility Requirements
Current students at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Enrolled at least half‑time in a degree, diploma, or certificate‑seeking program.
Must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number (SSN).
Must remain in valid Visa status, if applicable.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (students in first semester are exempt until GPA is established).
Must be located in the U.S.
Federal Work Study students may apply.
Must be in good disciplinary standing.
Summer semester only exception: students may maintain employment without being enrolled if pre‑registered for fall semester.
Responsibilities
Work under the direction of the Music Production and Engineering Program Associate and the Co‑lead MP&E Mentor.
Obtain and complete explicit assignments according to skill level.
Commit to a minimum of three semesters as an MP&E Mentor.
Assist first and second‑year MP&E students with studio booking, console introduction, signal flow fundamentals, and session conduct.
Invite students to assist with recording sessions and train them in time and resource management.
Conduct independent‑study mentoring sessions on an appointment basis.
Required Skills and Knowledge
MP‑447 Mentor:
Assist students in the Business of Music Production, conduct review sessions for midterms and finals, and provide homework clarification. Must have scored in the top 5% on midterm and final, no unexcused absences, top half on homework, completed MP‑447 in the last two semesters, and received an A with combined midterm and final score ≥190.
MP‑216 Mentor:
Coach students on class projects; successful completion of MP‑216 or equivalent required.
Represent MP&E major at Majors/Minors Fair and Admissions Welcome event.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; patience, accessibility, empathy, and technical proficiency in music technology.
Knowledge of hard‑disk recording, nonlinear editing, signal flow, acoustics, and Pro‑Tools.
ProTools Grader
Each semester, the Mentor supervisor and Lead Mentor select graders from the mentor pool. Graders have an additional role: checking, grading, and giving feedback on MP‑211 and MP‑212 ProTools assignments. Must understand ProTools, have completed MP‑341, and be able to critique and assist with assignments. Work is weekly and long‑term but temporary. MP&E students are strongly encouraged to apply.
