Overview

Location

This is an in‑office position based in New York City. The role requires regular attendance in the office four days each week, with some flexibility to work remotely per departmental guidance.
Responsibilities

Manage space reporters, overseeing and shaping their coverage.
Maintain an internal calendar to track and plan space and astronomy events.
Juggle multiple ambitious reporting projects, acting as coach and editor, deciding on travel approvals and when stories are ready to publish.
Monitor the news cycle and encourage reporters to pitch timely ideas.
Collaborate closely with colleagues on other desks when space and astronomy overlap.
Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and the mission to seek the truth.
Basic Qualifications

5+ years of experience as an editor or reporter on space, with experience across multiple forms of storytelling (news, investigations, features).
Experience framing and elevating stories for the broadest possible audience.
Preferred Qualifications

A collaborative, enthusiastic team spirit.
Ability to ask deep, tough questions while bringing excitement of new discoveries to readers.
Compensation

Annual base pay range: $165,000 – $185,000 USD. Eligible for variable pay such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. For non‑U.S. roles, benefits information will be provided during the interview process.
